How Do You Fit Out a Duty-Free Kiosk for Perfume and Liquor? Inside the Plus Max KLIA2 Project
Uniwell Retail Solution Sdn Bhd fitted out the Plus Max Duty Free kiosk at KLIA2 in Sepang, Selangor. The kiosk is a modular retail kiosk with integrated lighting and built-in storage. The fit-out combines perfume gondola racking, perfume wall racking and liquor gondola racking. With that mix, one compact airport kiosk can sell two high-value categories and still keep reserve stock inside the fixture.
What Did Plus Max Duty Free Need at KLIA2?
Plus Max Duty Free needed a kiosk that could sell perfume and liquor to international travellers from a small airport footprint. The kiosk also had to be installed inside a live, operating terminal. KLIA2 is one of Malaysia’s busiest airport terminals, so the Plus Max kiosk had to look premium and handle heavy passenger traffic. It also had to go in with minimal disruption.
Two product categories, one footprint
Perfume and liquor need different fixtures. Perfume boxes are light and small, and they sell on visual appeal and brand presentation. Liquor bottles are heavy glass, and they need stronger shelves and bottle stops. The Plus Max KLIA2 kiosk uses a separate gondola type for each category. This way perfume and liquor each get the right shelf depth, load rating and lighting.
Installation inside a working airport
Airport fit-outs at KLIA2 follow the airport operator’s permit and safety rules. Work often has to happen in fixed time windows ⚠️ [confirm: night installation? number of days on site?]. Because the Plus Max kiosk was manufactured as modules in Uniwell’s own workshop, on-site work was mostly assembly and electrical connection, not cutting and building.
Why Choose a Modular Kiosk Instead of a Built-In Shop Fit-Out?
A modular kiosk is faster to install, easier to reconfigure and can be reused if the retailer moves location. For airport and mall retailers, these three points usually matter more than the small cost difference against a built-in fit-out.
For Plus Max Duty Free, the modular approach meant three things:
Lighting was wired into the fixture at the factory, so on-site electrical work stayed short.
Shelves in the gondola racking can be moved to fit new product ranges or seasonal promotions.
If KLIA2 changes the terminal layout or the lease ends, the kiosk modules can be moved rather than scrapped.
Uniwell Retail Solution Sdn Bhd manufactures kiosk modules in-house. That keeps design, production and installation under one team, which makes it easier to control finishing quality and the project timeline.
